Bio-Sketch

Manuel Quagliaroli (Codogno, March 14 1984) received his Master Degree cum laude in Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in july 2009, with a thesis on form finding and analysis of cable structures. Later, he worked as structural designer and in 2010 he became a professional engineer.

In 2011, he started the PhD in Structural, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (Supervisor: Prof. Pier Giorgio Malerba) and in 2014 he received his PhD Degree cum laude by defending a thesis on a life-cycle approach for reinforced concrete structures sensible to shear and exposed to aggressive environments.

For several years he has been the teaching assistant of Bridges (2010-2015) and Structural Mechanics (2012-2015). In 2014 he became adjunct professor of Steel and Concrete Structures as well as assistant researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.

Author or co-author of several scientific publications – including journal articles and papers in conference proceedings – he participated in different international conferences (Italy, Poland, Corea, Spain) and he is a reviewer for international journals of Structural Engineering.

From October 2015, Manuel Quagliaroli is the owner and director at m² Structures, a design office specializes in Structural Engineering.

  • 2014. Ph.D Degree CUM LAUDE in Structural, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.
    Thesis: From Bidimensional towards Monodimensional Modeling of Sound and Damaged Reinforced Concrete Structures.
    Supervisor: Prof. Ing. Pier Giorgio Malerba.
    A new RC shear-flexible beam-column element has been formulated and coupled with damage processes modeling in order to propose a robust methodology that accounts for time-variant structural capacity. Several applications stand out the effectiveness of the model in dealing with actual and complex RC structures, such as bridges. Presentation.

  • 2009. Master Degree CUM LAUDE in Structural Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.
    Thesis: Form finding and analysis of cable structures.
    Supervisor: Prof. Ing. Pier Giorgio Malerba.
    An extended version of the so-called Force Density Method has been proposed in dealing with form finding problems of cable nets. The method has been applied also in mixed cable-struts assemblies [1], such as cable domes, and in footbridges [2], aiming to propose new efficient structural shapes.
